Heat, Water and Food October 28, 2007

bbc2.jpgIn light of all the natural disasters that have happened in the last few years, our bishop has really stressed that we get our food storage in order. We have a monthly canning session at our church, where they bring the cannery supplies to our ward building and we can them in the multipurpose room. It has been working out really well, and we are coming along with our supply.

Today, we decided to get our water and heating in order. We bought 2, 55 gallon, plastic water drums that you can get from Dan’s foods for a pretty decent price. Then we went to Sportman’s warehouse and got a camping stove, water purifier, propane bottles and other fun stuff. Aaron’s parents gave us a propane heater called a “Big Buddy” for Christmas last year, so we got some more big propane cylinders for it. I guess we’ll have a way to cook all the food I bought at Macey’s case lot sale a few weeks ago. Hopefully if we are stranded without power or water, we will survive for a little while. Dan’s also had these coos 72 hour kits that had a hand crank cell-phone charger and little survival sleeping bag, radio, etc. They were pretty loaded and compact as well, and they were only $50.00. I would have liked to buy them today, but we were trying to get the bigger stuff in order today.

Anyway, it looks like Chrismas in our living room with all of the stuff on the floor. I am sure Aaron is having a good time with all the new survival equipment. Now he wants to go camping just to make sure it all works ;) .

“Ad-uh-waide” October 9, 2007

I negelected to add a cute little story to my blog this morning. Last night we went over to my brother and sister-in-law’s house to help them put up a mirror. Actually, the boys put it up while Tiffany and I talked and watched the kids.
I had little Adelaide in my arms and Tiffany’s little 3 year old boy Korbin was running around in his “Dash” PJs and making all kinds of noise shooting his Nerf gun. We knew he knew the baby’s name so we kept asking him to say it. He didn’t exactly get the “L” part of it right and it kept coming out “Ad-uh-waide.” As cute as it was to hear him say it that way, I couldn’t help but want him to say it correctly. So I said to him,
“Can you say ‘Ad-el-aide’?” making every syllable as clear as possible.
Again it came out “Ad-uh-waide.”
So I thought for a second then said, again very slowly, “Can you say Ad-el-aide with a ‘la’?”
He replied “Ad-uh-waide, wid a uh!”
We all got a pretty good laugh out of that one. I guess I can’t blame him, he did what I asked him to, right?

Above is a picture of Aaron and Addie. We took her on her first mini vacation to Snowbird a couple of weeks ago. She did all right and I don’t think it was too big of a deal for her. Everyone loved her of course, and we had a good time.

…So, I am really getting used to this new mom thing. I absolutely love it! Little Adelaide is growing so fast I can’t even believe it. Every day she does new things. She is starting to “smile” more. I don’t know if she means it yet at only 5 weeks, probably not, but her eyes are tricking us.

This morning I put her down on her tummy on her little play mat and went to the bathroom. When I came back she was on her back, laying across the mat the opposite direction! I was so excited but a little nervous as this means she is really growing up fast. She can really only turn over if her hands are under her, but that is enough to be dangerous!

Last week I jumped on the bandwagon of Twilight and New Moon. I am still waiting for my mom and sister to finish Eclipse so I can read it. It is good that I had to take a few days off from the books because they totally consume my life when I read them. I woke up today wondering “what am I going to do while I feed the baby?” I am seriously way too addicted to the story. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. It really is not a good idea for me to get too caught up in fairy tales. I made my poor husband hang out alone with my family while I spent 2 or 3 hours Sunday finishing up New Moon. I would have felt really bad if my Dad wasn’t there and he was the only guy, but I figured he would survive with Grandpa Joe to keep the balance in the room. I just have to finish the third one and then forget about it for a year so I can live a normal life again!
